WHEAT THINS GO STALE
Now I’d like for everyone to meet Ms. Clara Rockmore. She is the first and most famous and most wonderful theremin virtuoso. But what’s a theremin? Well it was the first wide spread electronic instrument, invented by Leon Theremin in like the late 1920s. Now he was a physisist but anyone who has seen him play the theremin can’t deny that he was also a wonderful musician. To use the theremin, the player makes no physical contact with the instrument itself, which consists of like a sound box, a metal conducty thingy and an antenna. One hand controls volume and articulation while the other controls pitch and vibrato by making sign language esque hand motions. It sounds like the wiry baby of a violin and an opera singer using cello strings or something.
Clara Rockmore was originally a violinist but after getting artheritis, she picked up the theremin which was growing in popularity at the time. My how she can play that weird thingy. I’d love to get one when i grow up.
The illustration of Clara reminds me of the ladies that my friend Alina draws.
